Saying goodbye to a loved one is an incredibly personal and meaningful occasion. It is important that you are able to commemorate their life in a way that feels right for the family and friends as well as fulfilling their wishes. A big part of my role is to help you feel reassured and supported, whilst working closely with the Funeral Director. Together we can individually craft and personalise the service to include stories, readings, music and poems, which best reflect the wishes of your family, friends and celebrate their life.
After initial contact I will call and arrange a time to meet you where we can sit and talk. I can then get to know about the person and their life story. I do will need to compile some notes such as: dates, people’s names whom you may want mentioning and any important markers in their life. For example:
their personality and character,
their values and the way they lived their life
anywhere they lived and loved
where they were at school or college
any notable achievements or challenges overcome
family members and close friends
We will also discuss music and readings you might like included and who wants to read at the ceremony. You can chose photos to include in the order of service. I can also help you to write the eulogy or listen to you read what you have written prior to the funeral. Your eulogy is your personal memories of your loved one. It can include: how and where you met, funny stories, best memories etc. I can also read this on your behalf if you would prefer me to.
After our meeting I will create the ceremony, all the time keeping in touch with you. You will have an opportunity to read the draft introduction and closing words and can amend, sharing back any changes you would like me to make.
Above all, my priority is supporting family members by creating and delivering a memorable, individual and meaningful send-off.
